The viral content showcases an image of CJI Chandrachud alongside a fabricated statement, suggesting that the Chief Justice urged Indian citizens to participate in protests against the government.
The phony quote reads, "Our utmost endeavor is to safeguard India's constitution and democracy. However, your collaboration is equally vital. It's imperative for all citizens to unite, take to the streets, and question the government about their rights. Despite the authoritarian tendencies of this government, remain resolute and demand accountability. I stand by your side." This fabricated statement falsely attributes these words to the Chief Justice of India.
The Supreme Court's public relations office has clarified that they are pursuing legal action to identify the originator of this misleading post, which has been created with malicious intent.
The official statement from the PRO reads, "The Supreme Court of India has become aware of a social media post (urging the public to protest against authorities) that features a doctored image and falsely attributes quotes to the Chief Justice of India. This post is fraudulent, malicious, and deceptive."
The PRO statement further asserts, "The Chief Justice of India has not issued any such post, nor has he granted permission for any such content. Appropriate actions are being taken in collaboration with law enforcement agencies."
In essence, the Supreme Court of India has acted promptly to counter a misleading social media post that falsely attributes fabricated statements to the Chief Justice, emphasizing that legal measures are underway to address the situation and hold accountable those responsible for creating and spreading the deceptive content.
