In discussing the unveiling, Veejay Nakra, President of the Automotive Sector at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., emphasized, "Vision Thar.e stands as a testament to innovation and a pioneering design philosophy that is uniquely Mahindra and globally distinctive. Thar.e appeals to the adventurer in each of us, embracing exploration without compromise. Aligned with the worldwide trend towards responsible consumption, our focus on sustainable materials aligns with the broader shift towards planet-positive initiatives. This ensures that Thar.e is not only timeless but also timely."
Pratap Bose, Chief Design Officer at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., highlighted the design and development process, stating, "Creating Vision Thar.e was about embracing a bold and innovative future. Our design charts a new course, showcasing Mahindra's dedication to cutting-edge creativity and visionary thinking. While preserving the adventurous spirit and off-road capabilities inherent in Thar, we have crafted a unique identity in the realm of electric SUVs. This endeavor goes beyond creating another off-roader; it forges a vision that signifies a progressive leap in automotive design, all while staying connected to our roots. Thar.e serves as our proclamation of an exciting and responsible future."
The Mahindra Thar.e SUV distinguishes itself by utilizing modular components, many of which are adaptable and interchangeable based on specific needs. This transformative ability potentially converts the rugged off-roader into a more road-friendly SUV through part swaps. While exuding a concept car appearance, it integrates features that firmly position it within the Thar SUV family. Notably, this encompasses squircle-shaped headlamps with LED DRLs, a vertically slatted front grille that pays homage to the iconic Thar grille, and sharp geometric body panels that combine futuristic aesthetics with off-road practicality.
This unique SUV showcases large off-road wheels, short overhangs, spacious wheel wells, and, distinct from the current-gen Thar, a five-door body design. The cabin is designed with a minimalist yet functional approach, featuring straight lines and convenient grab handles. The well-placed display can be rotated for optimal viewing, contributing to the clean and organized layout.
Mahindra's commitment to sustainability is evident in the usage of fabrics made from 50% recycled PET and other repurposed plastics. This commitment aligns seamlessly with the Vision Thar.e, which presents a modern interpretation of an iconic SUV. Although specific details about the powertrain are not currently available, it is anticipated that the Mahindra Thar.e will utilize electric motors sourced from Volkswagen. Further information on this aspect will be disclosed in due course.
